Denair High School Families,
What a crazy “almost two years” it has been! I am so excited that we get to begin our year in seat-based learning and I get to interact with each of you in person! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Mrs. Kara Backman and I am the Denair High School Principal and the Director of Secondary Education within the Denair Unified School District. This is my 22nd year in education working as a teacher, administrator and national education consultant and my 6th year as the DHS principal. #gocoyotes. I have three amazing children that all attend Denair Elementary Charter Academy and are in the Dual Language Immersion program. I am passionate about youth first, giving back to our community and purposefully growing your mindset through life-altering relationships. I believe in the passion of providing opportunities for our youngsters while holding them to high expectations and ensuring they find their path in life at the post-secondary level.
As we build our year together, we will be focusing on:
- Authentic Literacy across the curriculum
- Copious amounts of reading, writing and speaking
- AP rigor
- WASC action plan goals
- LCAP goals
- Growing our band program
I am elated and proud to announce that we do NOT have any new teachers this upcoming school year!!!! We do have two new hires in the front office. Ms. Melissa Rivera, principal secretary. She is steadfast, patient and a quick learner. Our beloved Mrs. Gresham has resigned to be a full time stay at home mommy. Mrs. Brittany Heinsarr has been hired as our academic counselor. She is an Oakdale resident that comes to us from Stockton Unified. She has worked closely with Mrs. Gresham over the course of 7 solid days! We are so excited to have them both on board!
The chatter and happiness on campus regarding our summer camps is thrilling. It is fulfilling to see students happy, learning and enjoying every minute of themselves. I hope your student was able to experience some of it.
We are excited to see you at Coyote Call on August 4, 2021 in the high school gym. We will have a freshman tour on the same day at 5:00. During Coyote Call we will also be handing out your Chromebook which requires a parent/guardian to sign your agreement. Optional insurance is available to purchase for $20. We accept cash only.
Thank you for giving me this opportunity of partnership. I am excited about the year ahead of us.
